Thread cutting

Automated threading with ToolDrives brings maximum precision and process reliability to your series production. Thanks to the software-controlled, perfectly synchronized coordination between spindle speed and the purely electric feed drive, the system tracks the tap’s pitch exactly. This prevents tool breakage and ensures perfectly cut or formed threads in any position.

Thread cutting or forming

Automated threading in aluminum places high demands on cutting speed and chip evacuation, as the material tends to "stick." ToolDrives meets this challenge using highly efficient synchronous motors and a purely electric feed. Rotation and axial movement are perfectly synchronized with the thread pitch. This minimizes mechanical stress on the tap, prevents tearing of the soft aluminum thread flanks, and stops immediately in the event of chip jamming. Whether for blind or through-holes, the system guarantees perfectly formed or cut threads while maximizing tool life—making it ideal for robotic applications.

Tapping threads in laser-cut plates

Tapping threads into laser-cut sheet metal and plates often presents two challenges: the edges of the holes are thermally hardened during the laser process, and positional tolerances may vary slightly. ToolDrives handles this challenge with ease. Thanks to the immense torque of the electric drives, threads can be cut precisely even through hardened edge zones. At the same time, the compact spindle is ideally suited for use on flexible robots or cobots, allowing for perfect compensation of positional inaccuracies in the laser-cut holes.
